So writing a blog is something I have been meaning to do for ages. Thought it could be an idea to get down some of my thoughts and opinions online. I am a young 18 year old, currently studying for my A-level's, and hoping to go to university in September to study Politics and International Relations.. So anyway shall see where this takes me..

The virgin post.. but where's the inspiration?

Okay, so writing a blog has been something I have thought about doing for years. A space to put down your thoughts, good or bad and just have a general rant and ramble of all the things that spark your interest. But now I have created it my worry is, what to put?

I want to create something people are going to want to read, and won't put them to sleep (as I'm afraid my discussion topics can often do.. just ask my boyfriend), so I thought for the 'virgin post' I'd just tell you a bit about myself.

I'm currently studying my a-levels.. History, Psychology and English Literature and am hoping to go on to uni in September to study Politics and International Relations. I know to some, that will sound absolutely horrendous, but getting involved in debates and discussions is exactly the kind of thing I love.

Take recently for instance, the issue of university fees.. (And I'm sure this has already been blogged about loads, but hey I'm new, just want to test the water here.) I would question why it is the government so quickly dismissed the idea of a graduate tax? It's been said that the new system is very much just like a graduate tax, just with an upper limit, a low interest rate and a specific amount you need to earn before you start to pay it back, however I believe the psychological impact of a graduate tax is so much better than that of a student debt. Starting life with potentially anywhere between a £35,000 to £60,000 debt that needs to be repaid sounds absolutely horrific and will undoubtedly deter many from attending univeristy.. But a graduate tax, where you are taxed a little monthly for the rest of your life, sounds to me a lot less to confront!! We recently had our local MP, Duncan Hames, come into our school for a debate. He was a Liberal Democrat, who prior to the elections spoke to strongly for abolishing university fees, he then voted FOR raising them in parliament before Christmas. (You can imagine therefore his reception was not exactly huge!) It was interesting to hear what he had to say, yet even better at moments to see him squirm as he realised that he really had lost an entire generation of voters because of that vote in parliament.

Did you know that there were only 7 votes in it? If 7 more lib dems hadn't broken their promise and lost their back bone that day, university fees wouldn't have gone up!

Anyway.. this has moved from a bit about me.. to a bit about my opinions on University fees and aspects of our government. I guess I will say bye for now, see how my first post goes down, and try and pop something new on here this week!

Toodles for now! Xx
